Primary School

At GEMS Founders Al Mizhar, we provide a purposeful curriculum that ignites curiosity and a passion for learning. The curriculum is rooted in the traditional English National Curriculum, enhanced with a key focus on innovation and skills for the future. This secures world-class learners, well prepared for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

Through implementing a purposeful approach to learning and a focus on student leadership, we believe that our students will develop the knowledge, skills, and ambition to contribute positively to the world they live in. Pupil learning is underpinned by a broad and balanced curriculum that progressively builds on skills, knowledge, and conceptual understanding year after year. In addition to this, High Performance Learning (HPA) skills and attributes are embedded into lessons as a way of creating advanced learners.

Our fully inclusive curriculum enables all students, including those with disabilities and additional needs, to access learning and achieve. Learning areas designed to challenge and enhance skills ensure accessibility for all.

When children join us in the Foundation Stage, the focus is on leading learning through play—this is at the heart of everything we do. Students begin their early education with an engaging play-based approach that continues into Key Stage 1. Both indoor and outdoor environments provide students with opportunities to explore, discover, and develop independence and resilience in their learning. All learning is delivered through exciting themes and hooks, heavily based on children’s literature. Both stories and informational texts serve as starting points for the learning journey. From there, students are encouraged to develop leadership skills through exploration and inquiry in a safe, engaging environment. Children lead their own learning, taking themes in directions that excite them and align with their interests—confidently showcasing their discoveries within our learning community.

As children move into Key Stages 1 and 2, the emphasis on books and literature to inspire learning themes continues. Within each theme, subjects are primarily taught in a cross-curricular style, ensuring that key British standards are met while fully incorporating the Ministry of Education’s curriculum. The curriculum is further enriched with theme days, educational trips, special visitors, and events—all coming together to create a robust and memorable learning experience.

Personal and social development is fully embedded within our curriculum, ensuring all students are nurtured to become valuable contributors to their communities. Leadership opportunities—such as participation in initiatives like Heritage Heroes—empower students to have their voices heard, including contributing to curriculum reviews and the future of their own learning journey.
