Student Council
PURPOSE OF STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council is an organization conducted by students and supervised by adults. The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community.
The function of the student council is based upon parliamentary procedures. Ideas are presented, voted upon and confirmed by the student body president. Any student that is interested in leadership, organizational behavior, event planning or becoming more involved in the school are welcome to become involved.
Roles of Student Council
The president
The President of the student council not only represents all students at the school but also specifically represents the student council as a whole. The president is responsible for coordinating all student council activities and is typically in charge of running student council meetings. Duties usually include working with students to resolve problems, informing school administration of ideas emanating from the student body and setting a great example for all students in the council. The President will regularly meet with the Principal and other SLT members over school improvement.
Vice Presidents
The Vice Presidents work with the President on all issues and can stand in for the President if she is absent. They also co-ordinate and work with the other groups and encourage students to come up with ideas and set a positive example for all the students at GFM. The Vice Presidents will regularly meet with the Principal and other SLT members over school improvement.
SDP Officer
School Development Officers will mainly look at school improvement and ideas for helping students. SDP officers will oversee and organize the other groups and act as leaders in the student council. They will be in charge of each group and to make sure that students are working productively as a group in the student council.
House Captains
Will work with the Head of Houses, to create competitions and oversee different events in GFM. Helping teachers with House points, creating a fun and positive environment within the school.
Digital Yearbook Organizers
These students will collect pictures and events throughout the school year and prepare a yearbook for all secondary students to highlight everything that happened in GFM for the Year.
Innovation Officers
Students will work with the IT and school Innovation team to see how technology could be implemented in classroom and break activities. They will also report on Microsoft teams and the problems and areas for improvement it has.
Environmental Guardians
These students will focus on making the school more ecologically friendly and work on issues such as recycling, green planet, use of recyclable masks and many other issues about the environment.
Discipline and Social Distancing Monitors
These students will look at student’s behavior and social distancing. They will complete surveys to see where there is issues with social distancing. They will be able to monitor the halls at break and lunch.
Health and Well-Being Officers
These students will focus on Mental Health and how can students be more included at school. They will work closely alongside the school counselor and come up with initiatives and programs to focus on students throughout the school.
